Artist Statement
Just this.
Paying attention, watching the mind
Fragments unfolding, emerging
wholeness and impermanence
Meeting impermanence, bearing witness
With meditative stitch becoming the creative compass, focusing on process
Staying with my breath, staying in my body, not turning away
Does the hand lead or follow?
Being time, no before or after, just this place and time
no inside or outside of time
What do we touch? What touches us?
Exploring entanglements, an opportunity to understand what is most important
Just this.
Biography
I am a textile artist expressing a state of mind within the context of meditation and contemporary textile art. My exploration of meditative stitching, dyeing, and surface design began in 1995, first exhibiting my work in 2003.
As a registered nurse, I’ve been witness to a full spectrum of experiences from birth to death and the long “in-between” of chronic illnesses.
I continue to explore the intersections of meditation in daily life and “speaking in cloth”. My journey takes me on a path of discovering visual language for that which can’t be named.
Acknowledgements
With gratitude to RR Jones for the photos of my work and for all my teachers that have come before me on this path.
